The physiological process of Sildenafil involves the parasympathetic nervous system, which causes the release of nitric oxide in the corpus cavernosum of the penis. This in turn leads to the relaxation of the smooth muscles in the corpus cavernosum. This causes an increase in blood flow and an erection. What should a person discuss with his doctor before taking Generic Viagra or sildenafil?

• Generic Viagra or sildenafil should not be taken if you are also taking a nitrate drug for heart problems or chest pain. Nitrate drugs include nitroglycerine (Nitrolingual, Nitrostat, Nitro-Bid, Nitro-Dur, and others), isosorbide dinitrate (Isordil, Dilatrate-SR, or Sorbitrate), and isosorbide mononitrate (ISMO, Monoket, Imdur). • Usually generic Viagra or sildenafil is taken only when needed, about 30 minutes to 90 minutes before sexual activity. On sexual stimulation, this medication can help achieve an erection. Just taking this pill will not cause an erection.
• A person should not take generic Viagra or sildenafil more than once a day, 24 hours should be allowed to pass between doses.
• This medicine should be stored at room temperature and away from moisture and heat.

What happens if a person misses a dose?

• Generic Viagra or sildenafil is used as needed, hence a person is not likely to miss a dose.
• If a person misses a dose of Revatio, the missed dose should be taken as soon as the person remembers. If it is almost time for the next dose, the missed dose should be skipped and the medicine should be taken at the next regularly scheduled time. What durg or drugs may interact with generic Viagra or sildenafil?

Generic Viagra or sildenafil should not be taken if you are taking the following medications:

• nitroglycerin-type drugs for the treatment of heart or chest pain such as isosorbide dinitrate, nitroglycerin, amyl nitrite, isosorbide mononitrate, even if these are only occasionally taken

Generic Viagra or sildenafil may also interact with the following medications:

• alpha blockers, used for treatment of high blood pressure or an enlarged prostate. NOTE: Do not take doses of sildenafil higher than 25 mg within 4 hours of taking alpha blockers, such as doxazosin (Cardura®), alfuzosin (UroXatral®), terazosin Hytrin®), or prazosin (Minipress®).
• bosentan
• certain drugs used for seizures such as carbamazepine, phenytoin, and phenobarbital
• certain drugs used for fungal or yeast infections, such as fluconazole, ketoconazole, and voriconazole
• certain drugs for the treatment of HIV infection or AIDS
• cimetidine

• quinidine
